Tex-Mex Chili

Tex-Mex Chili from PeachyChiChi.blogspot.com

The picture doesn’t do it justice. Like any chili, you have to TASTE it… So read on, then get your ass in the kitchen!

Like I said in my previous post… I’ve been busy… WE’VE been busy, all of us, so I wanted to make something that would feed us for days.

Chili is always my favorite thing to make, because it’s soooo hard to screw up and there’s endless ways to make it different, literally, every time. I don’t think I’ve ever made the same chili twice. Now, usually, I use turkey everything, except bacon and chorizo… This time, I used beef. I don’t know what possessed me to buy a pound of ground beef, but I did. I don’t even like the way it smells when I cook it, but added to chorizo, it all worked out just fine.

This is a FAT KID version of chili. I have healthier and alternative recipes too…

Chipotle Carnitas Chili
Simple Three Bean Chicken Chili

I take that back, apparently I only have two! Oops.

Let’s get cooking, shall we?

Oh, and it goes without saying, this is freezable, thawable, enjoyable. Moving on…

INGREDIENTS:

Kidney & Black Beans – You can use canned, I did for this one to save time. I usually cook my beans ahead of time and freeze them in can sized portions to use in recipes or refry for my son. For this, you’ll need 2 cans of beans, drained.
1 Can of Sweet Corn, drained
1-2 Yellow Onions, diced
3 Green Bell Peppers, diced
1lb Tomatillos, chopped
1lb Roma Tomatoes, chopped
1 Head of Garlic, diced
1lb Ground Beef
1/2 lb Pork Chorizo
1/2lb Bacon
Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce
New Mexico chile powder
Black pepper
Knorr Chipotle cubes (this adds the Chipotle favor, without the heat. If I wanted the heat, I’d use the chipotle in adobo that comes in the little pull tab cans.)
Thyme
Salt
One, lonely beer. Preferably Corona or another Mexican style beer, XX or Modelo will work.

DIRECTIONS:

Grab your crock pot, turn it on high and add the beans and corn.

In a large, non stick pot, start browning the beef and chorizo, together. Drain off most of the excess fat and ditch it, we’re using bacon fat for the veggies. Add that meat to the crock pot and stir. In the same pot, cook the bacon. While it’s cooking, mince the garlic. When the bacon is almost finished, add the garlic and cook until it’s a  little brown. Drain the bacon fat into another little dish, crumble the bacon and add it, and the garlic to the crock pot and stir.

Then, with your diced veggies, start with the bell peppers first, then the onions, cooking them until they’re soft, in enough bacon grease to keep them from sticking to the pan… You want the heat around medium-medium-high, enough to blacken the veggies while you’re cooking them, just a little. It’s okay if you have a little mess in the bottom of your pan, you’re cooking it off, later.

Once the onions and peppers are done, add them to the crock pot. Then add the chopped tomatoes to the pot… Cook them, over medium heat until they start to fall apart a little, which should take like 5 minutes. You can cover them to help them along as well.

During this 5 minute break… Bust out that cerveza, crack the top and drink about 1/3. Make sure it’s ice cold though, for maximum refreshment in that hot ass kitchen, girl.

Now, add those tomatoes to the crock pot… Have a mess in your original cooking pot? Throw it back on the burner and add the beer. Whisk like crazy until the bottom of the pot is clean, simmer just a minute or two and add that mess to the crock pot.

Season to taste, as it’s getting’ sexy in the crock pot, using a big healthy squeeze of Sweet Baby Rays. This gives it a little smoky sweetness amid all the delicious hearty chili flavor.

Cook it in there, really, as long as you want… You’ll want to use the biggest crock pot, ever, or adjust your ingredients to fit in yours. I think mines about 5quarts and concoction came right to the top, I left the crock pot on high, half uncovered (sue me) for about an hour, stirring frequently, to try to cook off some excess liquid. It worked well!

You can serve it with chips, bread, in a bread bowl, with a fox or in a box. It’s really, really, really good. It’s one of the first batches of chili that I actually didn’t GET to freeze any of… It all got eaten!

Enjoy!

Oh… Hey there…

It’s been a while and while I’m sorry, I have to thank all the Pinners and readers for keeping me going, while I’m away from the computer.

The week of the 4th has been crazy, but it’s been a mad month for our household….

In the beginning of June, my bff got married in the uber delish Pacific Beach, so we spent the better part of the week enjoying a break from the heat, having some wedding fun and exploring San Diego… Such a beautiful wedding!

As soon as I got home, I had photoshoots to plan for and execute. That’s always a chore in itself, especially when it’s themed. I model in my “spare” time, I’m not sure if I’m mentioned that on the blog before… I’ve done it since I was a kid, to some extent and after taking a long hiatus, having a child, getting HUGE and shrinking back down, I’ve gotten back on my work horse, so to speak. It’s fun, it makes me feel great about myself, my man supports and encourages me in every way and more often than not, these days at least, it pays the bills. Win, win aaand win.

Since that shoot, I’ve been blowing up a little, on that front at least, so I’ve been busy with magazine submissions, planning more shoots and trying to wrangle some gigs along the way to gain some exposure and plan some more tattoos, of course…

SO, it leaves me little time to blog about the food I’m cooking, let alone photograph it. Ay.

I know I said I was going to do makeup on the blog, I still might do some product reviews but it’s on the back burner… It’s not really that interesting to me and it was meant to add another facet to the blog when I was getting bored with it. I may just transfer the ChiChi’s Vanity to a more fashion themed thing, rather than cosmetics. We’ll see how that unfolds. I’m not going to abandon it by any means, I have some cute looks from shoots and tips and such, so while it’s a little chaotic at the moment, it has direction.

Local loves has slowed down with the heat. It’s ridiculous here and there is no need to travel. Well, I did just buy a brand new car, so there’s plenty reason to travel, but nowhere to go in this heat. I wanted to feature the public pools, but it’s hard to take a picture of anything in there, because it’s crawling with kids and I look like a pedo-bear. Plus, most pools won’t let you take a photo at all. I still may do that one and use stock images, it’s worth it to have a list of places to cool off in the valley when it’s 118 out!

Well, that’s my update. Short, sweet, informative, I know. I’m off to clean my kitchen… Again… As it’s too hot for life, outdoors.

Brantley Gilbert!

There are many, many times when being a bartender can be the worst job, ever…

This was not that time.

I love my job at Salt River Fields.

When we first moved back here, we drove North on the 101 freeway, looked left and went, “What the fuck is that?!” It was a baseball field, multiple fields, in the middle of town? What the? What did they do there? I had heard they were building an abundance of Spring Training facilities around the valley, but we already have one in downtown, for the SF Giants, and I thought that was going to be it.

Nope.

This one is HUGE.

I started working there last Spring, for Spring Training and although it was hard, it was mad money. About 45 days straight, at about $200 a day, 6 hour shifts. Beautiful.

Not to mention, the other events they hold year round…

I listen to and love country, so I knew who Brantley Gilbert was, but either way, I love working concerts. I love it even more when it’s a country show and I’m the only girl in the stadium with Jack Daniels products.

This was the view from the office that we turn our banks in to. My view from the Jack tent was great, but I was working by myself and was too busy52f16864e47611e29f8422000ae90872_7 to get a good shot of the show. This was after the lights turned off and the fireworks were almost over. You’re looking basically between home and 1st plate, towards the outfield. That’s the D-Backs clubhouse on the left, the stage is center/right hand side and the other lights are monitors.

Loudest, fireworks, ever. But beautiful. I just love that venue. If you’re ever in the valley and have the opportunity to visit, seriously, do it.

So I RAKED in the cash last night, enjoyed some great tunes, nobody was an asshole, everybody tipped well and it was, in the words of Borat “GREAT SUCCESS!” Seriously. I’m going car shopping tomorrow, NEW car shopping. Not Auto Trader car shopping. lol

Wish me luck, I deserve this!

Enjoy your 4th, I know I’m about to!

Southern Style Biscuits & Pork Sausage Gravy

LaVidaAriza.blogspot.com

It’s not your milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard, it’s your biscuits!

This is another one of my top posts. The original can be found here. It was also one of my first recipes I put up. It has evolved, a smidge, the photo was deplorable, my gravy was chicken and my biscuits came from a can! I had a few minutes to kill during my morning coffee. Shazam! We have a re-blog.

It’s a classic, it’s easy and although a bit time consuming, refrigerates well and is absolutely to die for. For me, it’s a fat kid dream, realized. I love it, it doesn’t love me and I’ll live with that. (You CAN make it without buttermilk- in the gravy- using only milk, and cut calories/fat-ahem-flavor like a mother, I’ve done it, the boys don’t know the difference. Heh…)

Say it with me now… “Buttermilk.”

It’s a fat chef’s right hand man, when it comes to creamy sauces, down home food and that special flavor you can’t get from anything like it. Buttermilk. It makes your biscuits fluffy, your pancakes like grandma use to make and your sauces creamier than creamy and richer than rich. You’re going to use quite a bit in this recipe, but like I said, you CAN use milk only, there are also variations, like my brothers, which is made from evaporated milk and regular milk. The biscuits, are all the same, it’s the buttermilk that makes them good... In the gravy, you can also use turkey or chicken sausage. We do. It doesn’t render much fat for gravy purposes, but a little butter or some extra bacon grease should do the trick. (Yes, I keep it in my fridge, it’s perfect for anything you’d sautĂ© in butter or oil, in sparse amounts.)

Now, let’s make breakfast!

Gravy-

INGREDIENTS:

1lb Breakfast sausage, use pork for the full fat kid experience, use turkey or sausage if you plan on feeding somebody with clean arteries.
Buttermilk about 2 cups
Milk about 2 cups
3tbs All purpose flour
Salt
Pepper

DIRECTIONS:

Cook the sausage in a large sauce pan on medium while breaking it into small pieces. Once the sausage is cooked add the flour, using a whisk to make sure all the sausage is coated in flour. (There are also some who like to remove their sausage from the pan and add it later once the gravy has thickened. Not I, no… Not I. I prefer that whole fried sausage feel, seriously.) Let that cook on medium for about 4 or 5 minutes until it starts getting darker brown and you can tell the flour is starting to cook. Then, start adding the buttermilk, slowly, whisking thoroughly and quickly until it becomes thick and aaaalmost paste-like, but don’t let it burn! Then start whisking in the milk. You can add a little at a time to make sure the butter milk and milk get fully incorporated into each other and that the gravy will thicken up properly. (IF you happen to burn the gravy while you’re cooking, resist the urge to scrap the shit out of the bottom of the pan. Let it stay there, and yes, burn, while keeping that bottom later as thin as possible. You want your food to cook evenly, but that bottom is a lost cause. It’ll turn your gravy gritty.) Once you’re sure everything is mixed and going well, add the rest of the milk, about 4 cups total, and bring to a boil. Keep whisking, making sure to keep the sides and the bottom of the pan clean and free from gravy buildup. (Unless you already effed up, of course. You little culinary failure, you.)

It takes a while to cook, depending on how much gravy you’re making. The amount of buttermilk and milk also depend on how much you are making as well. The amount of liquid does reduce as it thickens, of course, but not drastically. I usually end up with enough for my Fiance, myself and the baby to eat to our hearts content as well as having leftovers for a couple of days. The time it takes is also relevant to how thick you like your gravy too, mine takes about 45 minutes to an hour to fully cook. And I’ll admit, that the gravy up there is a little thin. Gravy retains heat like crazy, so when you think it’s cool enough to pile up on your biscuits, it ends up being a waterfall of creamy sausage speckled bombtasticness.

Biscuits-

Ingredients:

2 c all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups very cold fat-free buttermilk
1 tablespoon canola oil

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 450°. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl and give it a stir with a whisk. Place butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until completely melted. Add cold buttermilk, stirring until butter forms small clumps. Add oil, stirring to combine. (You can use all butter, I usually do.) Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture; stir with a rubber spatula until just mixed and batter pulls away from sides of bowl. (Batter will be very wet.) Drop batter in mounds of 2 heaping table spoonfuls onto a baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 11 minutes or until golden.

Wait until your gravy is close to done to pop the biscuits in the oven. You can turn off the heat and cover your gravy while you bake since it will help thicken the gravy to let it stand for a while. Once your biscuits are done, split them in half, cover them in gravy and…. You know what to do next!

ENJOY!

We Have A Swimmer…

e1cb15e8c0dc11e2b71122000a9e28e1_7

Today, like any other (and literally, almost every) day, we decided to hit up our gorgeous pool for a little sunshine, swimmy and family time…

All went per usual until a certain somebody decided to get REALLY brave and…

SWIM ALL BY HIMSELF!

Kicks his little legs, smiles big and gives it his all!

It’s incredible, adorable, and bitter sweet, all at the same time…

I had to have my Mommy brag and tell the world what an amazing little boy I have.

That is all.

Happy Sunday and enjoy your week!

Hello, Summer…

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we’ve skated through Spring and are heading straight into a sweltering summer, leaving us plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine by the pool. Luckily, our apartments boast a beautiful pool!

I wanted to take a second to share a few photos of it’s sparkling deliciousness with the rest of you that might still be getting the tail end of some winter weather to assure you, warmer days are ahead! And if they aren’t, come visit Arizona, we have only two seasons, Summer and that month where you can wear boots!

Enjoy!

Mothers Day in Cave Creek, AZ

With Mothers Day rapidly approaching last week, I couldn’t help but wonder what I would be getting this year… My fiancĂ© isn’t very good with surprises since he, himself is so excited he tends to spill the beans just so he has somebody to relish in the excitement with. He openly admits I have everything and shopping for me is impossible, even when I’m there, because I will say, “That’s cute!” while walking by just about any store front. When he does shop for me, we usually get about 4 stores deep before he buys me something he swears I’ll look good in just to end the trip. Ooooh, men…

So, this Mothers Day, I wanted to DO something, after, we um, went shopping *hides guilty face*… Our little man is big enough to really enjoy little adventures to see things and do stuff, so I figured we’d head to Cave Creek, get out of the heat, enjoy the small town atmosphere, see the sights and get some drinks and lunch. I’m also pushing for us to buy a house in Cave Creek, so it was a perfect opportunity to go check out the area. I’ve been up there quite a bit, but my better half hasn’t made it much outside of Tempe and now Scottsdale, so it’s all new to him.

The drive up there is beautiful. You get off the 101 at Scottsdale Road and drive North. That’s it, just go North. You run right into this little Western town as the road curves left…

(Please forgive my horrible photography, I had no intention of blogging this little adventure and just snapped away for shits and giggles. Had I stopped the car, maaaaybe just once, we’d have something incredible to work with… Guess I’m just lucky the scenery’s ah-maaazing.)

2013-05-12 14.01.01DSCN6936DSCN6938DSCN6941DSCN6940

Once you get into town, there’s not much of it. Scottsdale turns into Tom Darlington and that’s the main road, everything jettisons off from there.

DSCN6943

The town itself has a neat little vintage feel. Everything is either in the 50’s style, Western themed, actually as old as the wild west itself, or a biker establishment of some sort. If it doesn’t fall into that category then it’s newly built, beautiful and blends into the landscape. (That’s an amazing thing about Arizona architecture, commercial buildings do a great job of NOT standing out here and letting the natural beauty of this area shine, despite being in the middle of a bustling city.)

When we got into town we realized we had more time than we thought relax before our reservation, so we stopped at the tamest looking place we could find for 2pm on a Sunday… (The area is very biker friendly, so their Sunday Funday was in full effect up there! NOT toddler friendly, but very fun for Mommy and Daddy!)

We ended up at Tap Haus, because their patio is big, they looked like a place we’d want to check out for a later putt and they had a boat in the back I had to know a little more about…

99910b70bbdc11e2988a22000ae9082c_7

It turns out that boat is an old piece that they picked up and re-did. They had a custom wrap put on and I can only imagine the staff perks that come with that bad boy. Check out their Facebook for a ton of photos from bike week and beyond. They host parties with fashion shows, bike stunts, Harley shows, bike washes and everything in between. I don’t know about you, but this is our kind of place! The beer was cold, the waitresses were friendly, they offered up some key information about moving to the area and of course, ate our mini man up! The waitress there also needs to get some mad credit for suggesting the Pollo Fundito at our dinner destination as well. Superb recommendation, my lady.

After two cold ones, at an unbeatable price, it was off to El Encanto Mexican Restaurant just down the street.

I’ve driven by this place before, a while ago and wanted to go there, because the outside looked beautiful. A few weeks ago we took a trip to hike up in Spur Ranch and passed it again, I snapped a photo, because sometimes, that’s the only way I remember anything. I take a picture. Work schedules, phone numbers, grocery lists, everything.

Anyway, when I was asked if I had any special places I’d like to go for Mothers Day, I spit out, “EL ENCANTO!” So fast, it made his head spin. 10 minutes later we had reservations at the most romantic restaurant in town. Seriously, check out their website, because I got absolutely no pictures of anything except what my focus was on: My son, my burrito and my tequila. And my handsome Spanish Stallion of course, sitting there across the table with his honey brown eyes and sexy face. I love my man. See? Told you this place was romantic! It was voted “Best Place To Pop The Question” a few years back and I can really see why… If we weren’t engaged already we would have been after that meal. Hehehe… (I need to post about our actual engagement one day before we tie the knot, it’s really such a sweet story…)

Anyway, like I said, the pictures don’t do this place justice…

2b906648bbe111e2924b22000aaa05e0_7

I loved, loved, loved the ambience of the restaurant. They have a duck pond, an area to feed them, multiple rooms and the place really seems to go on forever. You FEEL like you’re in Mexico.

I ordered the pollo fundito and a margarita. I have to say, the margarita was a bit weak, BUT I had already started at Tap Haus (Hey, it’s MY Mothers Day, right?) and they’re pre mixed, so I ordered shot on the side so I didn’t hurt anybody's feelings. Other than that, it was absolutely delicious!

The food was incredible. I can’t even stress HOW incredible it really was. Juicy, delicious, cheesy, flavorful, authentic and amazing. I can’t say enough good things about the food. The service was quick, friendly and competent (no hot plates in front of the baby, ect…)

We wanted to walk around a bit but the baby was starting to get a bit sleepy, it was getting late and the restaurant was getting crowded. Otherwise, I’d have more pictures of the interior which is why I can’t stress enough to check out the website for yourself!

If you’re ever up in the area, I suggest you try it out, if you’re not, bug your man to take you there, men, take your lady there. Just GO!

Oh, and as always… Enjoy!

Happy Mothers Day!

Almost three years ago, the day after my 25th birthday, I was blessed with a beautiful little baby boy that would change my life, forever.

He couldn’t have come along at a better time and I credit him often with saving me, setting me on the right path and making me try harder, every day. He makes me want to do better, know better and be better, for him. I’ve spent hours, days, months and years researching “baby stuff” to make sure that I feel I’m doing the best I can, for him, every day. I home made baby food for months to make sure he had only the best. When he has nightmares, I sleep in his room, on his floor, next to his bed since he won’t sleep in ours… For DAYS on end sometimes. I loose sleep, sanity, patience, “me time”, youthful freedom and an endless list of things I don’t miss in the trade off. I love him, over protect him, wash his hands too many times a day, follow him needlessly around the playground and cry when he falls. I kiss boo-boo’s, hold hands, kiss noses, sing songs, cut hair, change diapers, read books, give baths and answer never ending barrages of, “Whas dis?”

He’s my best friend, my mini me, my only child, my baby boy… My son… Mama loves you.

Happy Mothers Day, Mamas!

Papago Park & Hole In The Rock

After a hard night of work last night, my wonderful fiancé not only let me sleep in, but informed me when I woke up, that I could go on a baby free adventure, with my puppy.

The weather was perfect, puppy was excited, so we took off to Papago park, right on the border of Scottsdale and Phoenix.

It’s been one of my favorite spots for a quick little mini-hike and I haven’t been there since the weather warmed up… It was nice to trip around and take a few photos, take my time and not wrangle a toddler away from cactus that actually comes to YOU. Yes, I know, the stuff of nightmares.

Anyway, enjoy some of the sights I caught while out there!

DSCN6882These are called “Fairy Dusters”. I’m obsessed with them. They’re everywhere and not the most elusive of the desert flora, but I love them none the less.

collageI didn’t even try for this, I just took the same picture twice and the focus was opposite each time. I don’t have the most amazing camera, so this one made me happy.

DSCN6880DSCN6878DSCN6891DSCN6877
The trails are beautiful, well maintained and super easy to navigate. Total beginners hike, but not much shade at all. Welcome to Arizona.

DSCN6885DSCN6900

DSCN6905After finishing the loop, I walked down the trail to the base of Hole In The Rock.

DSCN6909DSCN6915

The hike takes you around the back to get up to the top.

DSCN69162013-05-09 12.01.322013-05-09 11.53.19
From the top you can see the South Mountain, Phoenix and everything in between. I’m really sorry about the horrible photo quality, this one was from my phone. Oops.

It’s a truly beautiful hike, takes only about 20 minutes and is really easy, it’s all ages appropriate for sure.

The park also features the Phoenix Zoo, the Phoenix Botanical Garden, the Oakland A’s spring training facility, the Hall of Flame which is a firefighting museum, and Papago Golf Course. See their website for more information.

Happy trails!

Cinco De Mayo ‘Ritas

Coming from a long history of college partying on Cinco De Mayo, my Frat Daddy fiancĂ© and I couldn’t really give up one of the best “party” holidays just because we were parents, however, we don’t exactly “party” these days… We wanted something kid friendly, by the pool with a few of our close friends and their little ones. Well we got it! Thanks to the not too hot Scottsdale weather, we threw a nice little fiesta at our beautiful pool!

I wanted to make some margaritas, but I didn’t feel like there was enough effort going into this cocktail sesh, so I figured I’d try to make my own simple syrup. It went SO well, I wish I’d taken more pictures of the process, but I was in SUCH a hurry I had no time to photograph a process that was going much slower than I needed it to anyway. BUT, it’s worth blogging about, because this can be made with most any fruit, I feel like, and could be used in a bunch of different ways!

Plus, it’s too easy!

55de2e34b60611e2828a22000a9f191e_7

As you can see, I wasn’t working with the fanciest tequila, that’s why the mixers must be tasty enough to conceal that, um, taste.

For the simple syrup all you do is combine sugar and water in equal parts, on the pot over high heat, boil until the sugar is dissolved. (I whisked away for a little while longer, hoping for a syrupy consistency, which worked, a little) Then, in my food processor, I combined about a cup and half of strawberries and obliterated them, seeds and all, because those little bastards don’t really bother me. If they aren’t your cup of seedy tea, then run your final mixture through a fine strainer to remove the seeds. But you’ll still end up with some in your ‘rita, cuz you’re putting fresh strawberries in there, so you’re really fighting a loosing battle…

Anyway, let the sugar water mixture cool completely before combining it with the strawberries either in the food processor or the blender. You should use just the blender, but I like to make a mess, so I used a food processor and a blender. Mix that shit up, real good, pour in a jar and set aside.

NOW, we’re ready to assemble some dranks.

I didn’t have any Grand Marnier this time, but I really prefer it in my margarita so my recipe calls for it.

This is for one margarita, just double, triple, whatever you need!

2oz Grand Marnier
2oz Tequila
2oz Lime juice (I use the premade stuff, juicing that many limes isn’t for the faint of heart.)
2.5oz Simple syrup
(Depending on your tolerance for the hard stuff, you can add a little Sprite to the mixture which makes your batch of ‘ritas go further and not pack such a punch. Messing with the recipe messes with the taste, keep that in mind. If this isn’t hard enough, or you just had a rough day, don’t be shy about adding some moscato. Don’t drink too many, because you will have a noticeably worse hangover than you can remember having for a long time. Obvi, wine, fire water and the Marnier aren’t friends, but they taste splendidly together.)

For the garnish and rim, keep some sliced limes and strawberries on the side as well as a little receptacle for a sugar/salt mixture for the rim.

You can either rim the glass with a lime wedge and dip into the salt/sugar, but I find that’s not sticky enough and I often fill the other half of my “’rita salter thingy” with lime juice.

Either combine everything in a blender with ice, or in a shaker with ice and serve!

Enjoy and happy margarita making!

New Facebook Page!

We blog browsers know, that Blogging isn’t a very interactive thing, unless you’re “linky partying” or whatever the ladies with FAR more time to do this, do. I do not understand this “linky” and don’t really LIKE the idea of such a flat feeling blog. I wish I could combine the aspects of Facebook into Blogging, but then you get something like Google+ and I’m not much of a fan of that either.

So, I took to Facebook to set up the Good Life a little page it can call it’s own. I wanted to promote my blog, but didn’t want to shamelessly promote it to my friends, via FB, because I have quite a few friends that don’t have children, don’t cook and simply don’t read. Juuuust kidding, no illiterate homies in my contacts.

Um, anyway, getting to the point, we’re now on Facebook. Yay!! That means things like comments, messages and updates! No more lost emails trying to clarify recipes, no more feedback going unpublished in the form of emails I can’t just copy and paste for my own selfish satisfaction… Self promotion is a shameless game, but I have boundaries, people.

I would like to invite all of my regular readers, pinners, followers and friends to head over to www.facebook.com/GiveInToTheGoodLife and “like” the page! I’ll be sharing links to posts and a much, much more!

Enjoy and as always, thank you for your support of The Good Life and me, ChiChi.

Isabella’s Kitchen at Grayhawk Golf Club

Today we had a family birthday celebration and had the opportunity to go to lunch at a new spot called Isabella's Kitchen. I am completely impressed!

It’s spacious, interestingly decorated, swanky, delicious and wait for it… Kid friendly! Hey, oh!

This is the view from where we sat, nestled next to the sprawling arms of a 150 year old Saguaro cactus. You’re looking out on the Grawhawk Golf Course, here in Scottsdale, off Thompson Peak, from a beautiful, 8 person wooden table in a secluded corner of Isabella’s Kitchen. A new Italian addition to North Scottsdale, Isabella’s opened in October of 2012 and offers upscale service, food and surroundings for South Scottsdale prices.

Those colorful bits in the grass are pieces of hula-hoops brought by thoughtful parents who know Isabella’s is the place to let the kids play while you relax, soak up some sunshine (or not, as there is plenty of indoor and shaded seating available) and take in the view.

The menu was simple and easy to understand, beer is served in frosty mason jars and for being at an upscale golf club, the vibe is noticeably laid back. Wide open floor plan and picnic table seating in some parts, couches in others, and even rocking chairs give you a relaxed “down home” feeling, while the details really are the icing on the cake. Check out the photo above, the sweet little bottles they bring extra water to your table in. It’s adorable!

I indulged in a generic brew because my little angel was fast asleep and after being at Build-a-Bear for a birthday earlier in the day, in which he was a bit of a stinker, Mommy needed a little Rn’R. I’m usually a wine girl, but daytime is too early for a glass of wine, for me and the glasses start at $7, which for a lunchtime buzz, is a little much. Beers start at $3 for a Pabst on tap and don’t go past $6 for a craft on tap. They don’t have a happy hour menu as of yet, but one could only hope that would be in the works soon!

Oh, did I mention the food? Yep, you guessed it, delicious, distinctive and budget friendly!

We got the 12” pepperoni pizza and I added ricotta, it was only $12 and split between two people, was just enough. I could have used an appetizer, but I was absolutely starving and we were in a bit of a rush, which is why I don’t have more pictures. The crust was crunchy, thin and had a great taste... Everything was fresh, flavorful and unique, which is often a difficult task to accomplish when making pizza.

If you’re in the area, go check this place out for lunch, dinner, anything. Or, if you’re playing a few holes at Grayhawk, I saw a little cart zoom off, so I know they feed the golfers near and far!

Enjoy!
